Record the request precisely

Keep the lawyer-approved request, date and intended recipient with the matter reference. Preserve any revised scope separately. The assistant should not infer a procedural entitlement or deadline from a generic request template.

Separate acknowledgement from delivery

Identify what each response contains: acknowledgement, partial material, a question or the requested packet. Keep the original reference and received date. A message saying the request is being processed should not close the material request.

Prepare the review queue

Route received document packets to the assigned lawyer under the firm's access process. Record receipt and review separately so the team can see which material is available but still awaiting examination.

Sources and further reading

  • Discovery | Colorado's 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office

The office describes submitting a request for materials, notification that they are ready for collection, and the option to collect or download them. It distinguishes initiating the request from making the materials available later.

The source describes the local office's process, not a receipt register maintained by defense counsel. Readiness or availability does not confirm that a particular defense lawyer received and opened the materials.
