# Answer an order status question with the record you have

A customer asks where an order is. The owner has an order record showing that a shipping label was created, but the material supplied does not show a carrier scan or a tracking link.
This fictional case shows how to prepare an accurate reply from that limited record.

## Fictional example

The owner's request: Use the order information I supplied to draft a status reply. Include the time of the latest record and do not invent a delivery date.

Information provided:
- Fictional order A-2048; requester verified by the store's own process.
- Fictional latest supplied record: Tuesday 10:00, label created. No carrier scan or tracking link supplied.

Example result: Draft: “The latest record I have, from Tuesday at 10:00, says a shipping label was created for your order. It does not show a carrier scan or a tracking link, so I can't confirm a delivery date yet.”

The next step: The owner checks for a newer authorised status, reviews the recipient and decides whether to use the draft.

## Know which order and status you are using

The fictional record is for order A-2048. The store has verified the requester using its own process. The latest status provided is “label created”, recorded on Tuesday at 10:00; no carrier scan or tracking link is included in the material.

A label can exist before a parcel has been handed to a carrier. The answer should name the status and its time instead of upgrading it to “in transit” or guessing a delivery date.

## Say what is known in ordinary language

A reply draft could read: “The latest record I have, from Tuesday at 10:00, says a shipping label was created for your order. It does not show a carrier scan or a tracking link, so I can't confirm a delivery date yet.”

The owner can check whether a more recent authorised source is available before using that text. A newer scan or tracking link would add information to the reply.

## Pause if the order or recipient is unclear

If the requester has not been verified, several orders could match, or the records conflict, resolve that first under the store's process before sharing order details.

For an order split into several parcels, check the available status of each one. A scan for one parcel does not establish what has happened to the others.

## Choose the next source to check

The owner decides whether to look for a newer carrier update or ask a team member to investigate. The prepared reply is available for the owner to review.

## Questions you may have

### Does a created label mean the carrier has the parcel?

The supplied status does not establish that. A carrier scan or another reliable update would be needed to say more.

### What if the tracking link is missing?

Say it is not available in the supplied material. Do not invent a link or tracking number.

### What should the store check before sharing an order status?

Verify the recipient according to the store's process and make sure the information belongs to the right order. Resolve conflicting or unclear records first.
