# Put a custom cake request on one order card

A customer has described a cake across several messages. Before the bakery owner commits to a date or starts production, the details need to live together and the open questions need to be obvious.
The order and customer in this example are fictional. The card is a preparation aid for the owner.

## Fictional example

The owner's request: Combine the customer's messages into one cake order card and show me what still needs an answer.

Information provided:
- Fictional messages request a vanilla cake for 18 May, 12 servings, with blue dots; ask whether pickup at 3 pm is possible; and ask whether it is nut-free.
- Fictional checklist: date, portions, flavour, decoration and pickup time.

Example result: Order card: 18 May, 12 servings, vanilla, blue dots. Pickup requested at 3 pm but unconfirmed. Nut-free question unanswered; check actual ingredients and bakery practices before responding.

The next step: The owner checks availability and the allergen question, then decides whether to accept the order and how to reply.

## Reassemble the details the customer gave

The first fictional message asks for a cake for 18 May, serving 12, with blue dots. A second message specifies vanilla. A third asks whether pickup at 3 pm is possible and whether the cake is nut-free.

The owner also supplies the bakery's order checklist: date, portions, flavour, decoration and pickup time. A question about 3 pm is not the bakery's confirmation that the time is available.

## Show the proposed time and the open question

The card could read: 18 May; 12 servings; vanilla; blue dots; pickup requested for 3 pm, unconfirmed. Add a separate line: customer asks whether the cake is nut-free; answer not supplied.

The cake description does not establish an ingredient list or support an allergen assurance. The bakery owner needs to check the actual ingredients and its own handling practices before answering.

## Decide whether the bakery can take the order

The owner can check the calendar for the requested time and review the allergen question with the relevant staff. A draft follow-up might say: “I have your request for a 12-serving vanilla cake with blue dots on 18 May. I'll confirm whether 3 pm pickup is available and check your question about nuts.”

The owner reviews the draft and decides what to tell the customer. The card does not mean the order has been accepted or a price agreed.

## Record a later change against the order

If the customer later changes the serving count or pickup time, the owner can update the card and retain the earlier request for reference. A changed detail should be confirmed before it becomes an instruction for production.

## Questions you may have

### Is the cake order confirmed when the card is complete?

The card collects the request. The bakery still decides whether it can accept the order and confirms the terms with the customer.

### Can the cake be described as nut-free from these messages?

The request does not establish the ingredients or handling conditions. The bakery must check the actual cake and its own practices before answering.

### What if the customer changes the pickup time?

Record the new request against the same order and distinguish it from the time the bakery has actually confirmed.
