# A returning client asks for the same haircut

A regular sits down and asks for the same cut as last time. The barber remembers the client, but the details are spread across two notes from previous visits.
In this fictional example, the owner asks for a concise recap to discuss with the client, using notes the shop is allowed to keep and review.

## Fictional example

The owner's request: Summarise C-18's last two haircut notes so I can check what they want today.

Information provided:
- Client reference C-18. Shop-approved notes only.
- 4 July: number 2 taper on sides; leave top longer.
- 15 August: same taper; trimmed about 1 cm from the top.

Example result: Previous notes: number 2 taper on the sides (4 July; repeated 15 August). On 15 August, about 1 cm was taken off the top. Ask today: 'Would you like the same taper, and how much should I take off the top?'

The next step: The barber asks the client, agrees today's cut and decides whether to add a dated note under the shop's rules.

## Put the two visits in order

The shop identifies the client using its own reference C-18. A 4 July note says a number 2 taper on the sides and a longer top. A 15 August note says the same taper was used and about one centimetre was trimmed from the top.

Each detail stays attached to its date. The second entry adds what was done on that visit; it does not tell the barber exactly how long the client's hair is today.

## Use the recap to start the conversation

A short summary can save the barber from reading both notes at the chair. The useful question is whether the client wants the same taper and how much they would like taken off the top today.

If the notes belonged to different clients, conflicted, or were missing, the right starting point would be a conversation rather than a guess from a photograph.

## Record today's choice in the shop's usual way

The barber confirms the plan with the client before starting. If the client wants a different finish, that preference belongs with today's visit rather than being written back into the old note.

The shop decides what to retain under its own rules. A compact, dated note is more useful next time than an undated claim that the client 'always' wants the same cut.

## Questions you may have

### Can the notes tell the barber exactly what to cut today?

They describe earlier visits. Hair grows and preferences change, so the barber still confirms the plan with the client.

### What if two notes give different taper lengths?

Show both dates and ask the client which finish they want. Do not silently choose one.

### Should a shop save every detail about a client?

Keep only the notes the shop is permitted to hold and needs for the service, following its own rules.
